CARE CURE!
(Every Child is Special)
Recently, I had just watch “Like Stars on Earth”. I found it very touching that everybody shed a tear while others burst out. Becoming emotional when watching movies is not a new thing to me, I have been emotional when watching certain scenes in movies before. "Like stars on earth” is the only movie that has made me emotional even after it ended and all that is because of this small wonder. I sympathized with Ishaan because at a young age, he carried too much burden and suffer emotionally. No one understands him.
Everyone taught that he was just lazy and just making an excuse to not study. Even his father couldn’t understand him; he’s so pathetic and helpless. People considered him crazy idiot and a troublemaker. He simply couldn’t read nor write. In his sight the letters and numbers are dancing and haunting him that made him more difficult to learn and understand that’s why he often misspelled the words and write numbers backwards. He has a wild and vivid imagination and he loves to paint so much. Ishaan’s world is filled with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate including his father too. For adults, life is a competition. You need to compete to be on the top. Ishaan’s father wants Ishaan to be like his brother, a top in every subject and an achiever. And this made his father upset because Ishaan repeats on grade three and there wasn’t any trace that Ishaan was improving. Grades and neatness define you as a person for them but they don’t seem to realize and failed to understand that attitude defines a person. In their eyes, Ishaan didn’t get right; all he did was wrong and shameful.
Until one day, when he got involved again in a trouble his parents couldn’t handle anymore. He is packed off and sent to a boarding house to be disciplined and learn the right things. This scene makes my heart bleed and tears fell down on my cheeks once more. I remember the first time when I was separated from my parents. I was 11 years old that time. Every night I’ve cried and long to see them especially my mom. I missed them every now and then that I don’t even have an appetite and couldn’t even concentrate with my lessons. I knew how it feels to be separated from your parents and watching that scene made me remembered that day.
Things at Ishaa’s new school are no different from his old school. And Ishaan doesn’t understand why his parents did it. Same scenario happens, he was still scolded and punished by his teachers and no one really understands him. No one stretch his/her understanding towards a boy name Ishaan. Being separated from his family, he contends with the added trauma and made him felt bitter day by day. He loses his grip and confidence because of the feeling of rejection and being left alone. As Abraham Maslow hierarchy of needs, the highest level of satisfaction of a human is the “self-actualization”, the acceptance of the facts, morality and the second level is the esteem which comprises of the self-esteem, confidence, respect of and by others. These things were lack to Ishaan.
