I agree that the fear of failure can motivate students because failing will never get you nowhere in life. Kids would just want to get out of school to be out school, never wanting to look back but as everyone would know, you would need a college degree to get a decent job or a job that would have respect with a decent pay. High school teachers would push the students to work hard in their four years of high school, but there isn't really much you can do when a student doesn't want to learn and just slacks off. Attending college is a scary moment for most of the soon to be college students. Although most teenagers would love the freedom, most parents won't like to see their child going away. Upon that, parents are scared that their kids are followers and never a leader once they hit the college life.
The fear of failure can motivate students due to the high percentage rate of high school drop-outs. High school drop-outs are either kids who never wanting to succeed in life or teenage girls who are pregnant and couldn't handle school and raising a child. For instant, "I was a teenage mother." For me, dropping out of high school was one of the stupidest mistakes I made in life. Raising my child and dealing with school work was hard, some kids weren't as lucky as I was, having the support and help from my parents. Although I was one of those kids who did drop out of high school when I was sixteen, I managed to get my high school diploma when I turned twenty-one.
The fear of failure can motivate students because I think other people would judge them as a failure. Failing or looking like a failure will motivate a student to perform better. Some students are followers but never a leader and some are leaders and never a follower. Most of the students work so hard in school so they can succeed in life and not wanting to work the minimum wage job. That's why parents pushed the kids to work hard in school.
