Introduction:

This is an introduction of my interview, I am doing a class project on _Asian American women aged 40-55_ consumers and how they dress. This project will help me to understand how consumers think about how to dress and appearance. She is an Asian American, aged 48. She emigrated from Taiwan 20 years ago and has been living in Minneapolis for 20 years. She is a typical housewife and she has a daughter and two sons. I knew her though my Chinese friends in Minneapolis and I made this interview through MSN with her.

The reason I chosen her because I think she is different with me. The first character she differs from me is she is 28 years elder than me. Secondly, she is a citizen of United States for a long time but I am Chinese. And I am female, but we both born in China.

Questions and Answers for Interview.

1. Q: If you walk on the street, will you notice what these people wear?

A: Not often, except very special ones.

2. Q: Will you care about how other people value your dressing when you go out?

A: It depends. If I go to a market or pick my children up, I care nothing. But if I go to friend's party, I will want to know what they will say about me. However, I will feel happy if someone strange tells me I am adorable.

3. Q: The unexpected praise always makes people comfortable, right? So, how do you get information about fashion? Like fashion magazines, TV?

A: I did not read fashion magazines. Even on TV, I will not pay attention to the fashion channel. I went to store to buy what I like. I did not care about what was the fashion trend.

4. Q: So, how will you build your aesthetic?

A: I like clothing that is well made, using high-quality materials. I think it is due to my mother. She likes to buy classic-designed clothing, especially cashmere coats. She said that a nice coat could be used for many years. And the concise design could give a coat long life. And since I have been in Minneapolis for 20 years, my dressing style is also influenced by Americans. They like convenient clothing, like jeans and sneakers. Dressing too much in United States will make you seem strange, I think. So I prefer shoes and clothes that could allow me to move easily like flats and loose sport pants.

5. Q: As an Asian American, which culture influence more on your dressing style?

A: I think if I stayed here, in Minneapolis, American dressing style influences more. If I go back China, the Chinese dressing style influences more. A person should dress like the others. You could have your own character, but being too outstanding will get many comments which will makes me uncomfortable.

6. Q: Where will you buy your clothing? How often will you buy clothing, including shoes.

A: I did not buy so much and so often, at most once a week. I often buy clothes in Macy's and the outlets.

7. Q: Will or have you shop online?

A: I haven't and I will not. The pictures online will mislead us. It shows the best aspect of clothing. And the size chart will differ from different brands.

8. Q: When you shopping, what point will you focus on most?

A: I think it is the cost performance. I will not spend too much on clothing, especially the ones wear in summer. But I will spend on handbags.

9. Q: What kinds and brands of handbags do you like? I heard a joke that every woman in Flushing (an area in Minneapolis where many Chinese lives) has a Louis Vuitton. Does Asian American like you have great preference for this brand?

A: I like large, dark totes. Because whatever I wear, it will get well with other clothing. The handbag I wanted most is the muse oversized tote from YSL. I liked
