"First Dance"

The name of the song I picked is "First Dance" and it's sung by one of my favorite bands NeverShoutNever. The song is an upbeat sort of Indie/Alternative song; the song has been one of my favorites for a while and still is to this day. It's a different type of music than what you generally hear on the radio, which is why it's one of my favorites. It was also dedicated to me by a boy that I strongly have feelings for, so it means a lot to me.

The song is mainly about a boy being slightly nervous and shy about asking this girl to dance and basically be with him in a relationship, he states that as soon as he saw her, he had a crush on her, and that he wants her in his life. One lyric in the song goes "But you could make everything alright, and I want you to." This is in the chorus and shows that he wants her in his life and doesn't want typical flings, which in most cases are values girls look for in men.

This song can possible relate to society because most girls seem to have the mind set to think that guys only want one thing and that isn't a meaningful relationship, or that they don't get nervous when talking to a girl that they might like. But listening to this song shows that no, some guys do want a relationship and do not just want to "hit it and quit it." It also relates to teenagers in love all over the country, if a guy is in love with a girl he is going to want to dance with her and basically tell her that she maybe the one, so why not take the chance with him.

"First Dance" shows a positive message and is a generally a great song to listen to, because it is a positive subject to think and talk about. Not to mention it's not like the typical music you on the radio all the time which has to do with sex, money, drugs, or heart break. This may be hard to find sometimes for music aimed at teenagers.

Songs are too similar these days, some people believe it's better than older music but it's really not. I'm not like most teenagers who listen to ONLY pop, rap or hip hop. I listen to all genres, from NeverShoutNever, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink-182, Nirvana, The Stokes, Incubus, Hoobastank, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, and even Tupac. I'm a very diverse person and when it comes to music, which is a big part in my life, know what I'm talking about.
