Five Values of Education - Main Aim of Education

FIVE VALUES

One question that arises in society today is "What should colleges teach?". There are several different answers to this question. What they should focus on besides education are the five values that build the foundation to a strong academic community. Yes education is the most important but honesty, trust, fairness, responsibility, and respect are the keys to a great academic success.

Honesty is the guest for truth and knowledge that requires intellectual and personal honesty in all aspects of teaching and learning. Without honesty in a academic community it is apt to fail thus failing society. Intellectual honesty provides the clearest path to knowledge, understanding, and truth of an academic goal. Therefore, colleges should be the key player in this department, especially since honesty is expected from all of its students in every academic setting. Honesty is very important to attain goals for the near or distant future; therefore, colleges have to help teach and make sure honesty is being enforced to maintain a substantial academic setting.

Of course trust stands side by side with honesty. Trust is needed in an academic community to foster a climate of mutual understanding and/ or trust in order to stimulate the free exchange of ideas. Everyone involved should contribute candid opinions, reviews and assessments of research and other academic exercises that are vital to sustaining a great discussion. Without trust between the students and professors, there is no basis for learning. That would alleviate any discussions to help better understand the teachings. If they are not able to put trust in the person that is teaching them, their brain is definitely not going to respond like a sponge and absorb anything presented.

Fairness in an academic setting should include all interactions among students and college employees to be held in transparent standards and practices. Fairness is a key point in the academic community. They can not be partial to any given individual and expect to remain without lawsuit and discern.

Responsibility in a thriving academic community demands personal accountability on the part of all members and depends upon action in the face of wrongdoing. It is the mentality to make a decision and take the consequence for one's decision and help people recognize whether it is right or wrong. People can play different roles of responsibility in many different circumstances, such as being a student or an employee. One must take responsibility for his/ her actions. If they are not able to do so they will have a very difficult time whether it being in college or out in the workforce. Without expecting consequences for their actions they will either cause problems for themselves or someone else. " First we are confronted*via an announcement on the computers through which we input orders*with the new rule that the hotel
