The main relationship in Forrest Gump that I'm going to be analysing is that of Forrest and Jenny. Forrest and Jenny had been friends since childhood, they first met each other when they were children whilst on the bus and the second Forrest heard her voice he knew he was in love. Jenny grew up with an abusive father, she found a friend in Forrest and after her father got arrested she was taken to her grandma's house which was closer to Forrest's. At night whenever Jenny got scared she would sneak into Forrest's house and fall asleep next to him. Throughout high school Jenny and Forrest became extremely close, she liked to spend lots of time with him because she didn't want to be alone. Forrest would continually refer to them as being like "peas and carrots." Despite their close relationship Jenny was never interested in Forrest as more than a best friend; however it was clear that he felt deeply affectionate towards her.
Robin Wright plays an extremely confused character in Jenny Curran. She spends the entire movie trying to find herself and Forrest makes many unsuccessful attempts to help her through this journey. Jenny is always interested in the 'bad boys' who would abuse her and never treat her properly, this was due to the fact that her father used to do the same. Jenny leads a self-destructive life thanks to her father as she never truly got over what he did to her. This is shown in the scene where she goes back to her childhood home and throws rocks at it then breaks down in tears.
