Lewis, H. George."From Minnesota Fat to Seoul Food: Spam in America and the Pacific Rim." Journal of Popular Culture 34.2 Fall(2000):83-105.Print.
Food is any substance, composed of carbohydrates, water, fats and/or proteins, that is either eaten for nutrition or pleasure. Many traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions using various spices or combinations of flavors unique to that culture. Other differences include preferences (hot or cold, spicy, even salty). Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. According to George SPAM was introducing 1937 has made cooking much easier and likeable.
George explains how "SPAM" came about "The Beginning: Miracle Meat in a Can" in which the SPAM started and got the name, he talks about the pride and embarrassment, how SPAM went local, the power in the Pacific, and the respect in Korea.
"In the Beginning Miracle Meat as George states, came about because of pounds of meat left to go to waste. Before spoilage set in as George recalls Hormel grinded up pork with meat and canned it.
Hormel took pride in the selling of SPAM, coming with many ways of having it on the spotlight with campaigns, images of the "All American girl", called, "The Hormel Girls", according to George performed musical and comedy and engaged in promoted samples of SPAM(87). But in many other places as for instance "The Food of Paradise" as it is known in Hawaii, SPAM is an embarrassment - too salty, too fatty, and to overprocessed. Pacific people like SPAM because it has been absorbed into their own societies (93) and they have been influenced to different kind of food.
