In movies today every romantic comedy can in some way be traced back to Jane Austin's Sense and Sensibility. Whether that link be obvious or is barely recognizable to the viewer the fact is that it is becoming ridiculously overused. Apart from the adaptations that tell the story word for word in the time period and such the 'modern' versions, while some have certain appealing qualities, have used up all the modernization of this beloved story that one can bare. The most tasteless movie that boast the retelling of Jane Austins would be the 2011 'From Prada to Nada' which tells the story of two sisters who lose all their money and must live in the 'ghetto' with the rest of their Mexican family in East L.A, one sister finds love in a street guy after finding out her boyfriend is actually married and the other with a lawyer who is apparently out of her league and the brother to her half-brothers wife. The movie does have endearing qualities but in the end it is really just a straight to dvd romcom. The characters are two dimensional the movie itself has no actual story arc and speeds quite quickly from start to finish, it is just a sloppy movie with a few minor adventures and little humor thrown in. If youths were to watch this movie as a replacement for reading the book they would find that they have very little and useless knowledge of the true themes and plot of the Jane Austin novel.
