Survey How did you survey?

I read all the blue headings and italicized words to get familiar with the content. I also checked out the charts and graphs too. I read the boxes with questions in them.

Question What questions did you ask?

How can I apply SQ3R to my reading? What is the importance of critical thinking? What is the importance of reading this information? How can I apply it to my work now and in the future?

Read How did you read?

I read a page or paragraph, then I go over what it is I got out of the paragraph in my mind. If I am unclear about the content, I reread it until I understand what it is I am reading. I try to make mental notes of what I need to remember, like the graphs and charts section. I need to remember visiual aids should be strong and support of the information I am giving. You do not want to put unnecessary information in charts and graphs.

Recite What did you recite?

I looked back over the headings and recited in my mind what it is I can answer about them. I wanted to make sure I comprehended what I read.

Review How did you review?

I reviewed by taking notes of certain things to remember in the future. I want to be able to come back to the notes if I need them later on. I made notes that will remind me of what I read so that I will know where to go if I have a question or need help remembering things.

Wrap-up Questions: How successful was the SQ3R process in helping you grasp the concepts in the section you selected? Will you use SQ3R in the future as a way to master the content in academic readings?

The SQ3R was a helpful tool by teaching me how to approach reading. I understood more of what I was reading by being prepared when I started reading. Instead of jumping into reading the content, I knew what I was going to be reading about and already had questions I wanted to answer.

Using the SQ3R will be great in the future. I will definitely be using it to understand more of what I am reading especially academic wise. It made understanding what I read more easily done.
