When looking into the past and the birth and evolution of The United States of America, one must consider George Washington as a major role player in this countries great history as well as becoming one of the most important men in world history. The nation's founding father, George Washington was born in 1732 into a planter family in Virginia. As a youth he quickly learned the morals, etiquette, and manners expected of a Virginian gentleman. Soon he became interested in two fields, military arts or the art of warfare, and western expansion. At a young age Washington saved every scrap of paper he ever laid thought and ink on, and kept them together in chronological order as if he knew he would be a great figure in world history.

Records preserved in our National Archives show a more complete history of a man than any other. After years of the British government's oppression on the American colonies and negotiation from statesmen from all the colonies, Washington began the leading General in the American Revolution, leading to a victory after six years of retreat and surprise attack warfare between 1775 and 1781. But he was not done yet. America was not running properly with the Articles of Confederation and Washington became a primary brain and power in the creation of our Constitution. Elected as our first president, George Washington took his presidential oath on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York, on April 30, 1789. (www.whitehouse.gov)
