Global Inequalities Issues
Global Inequality is a significant determinant of human behavior opening doors of opportunity to some and closing them to others. It has two dimensions which are the inequalities which exist between countries and the inequalities within countries. Not everyone in the United States is rich and not everyone in a poor country is poor.
Statements of Enlightenment to this Assignment: Global Divide
Our Team Assignment is rooted in the readings we covered during lecture in class last night. Lecture summary, we covered how people in some parts of the world dedicated their lives to fighting starvation. This type of dedication is referred to as coping mechanisms; the text went into some detailed descriptions of what these people would do fight off hunger pangs, which consisted of strap flat stones to their stomachs, eating grasshoppers and dirt (p. 219). We learned that nations, families, and individual that participate in such activities are considered to be of the bottom billion (or the poverty stricken) of the global divide (pp. 218-219).
The global divide is rooted in global inequality (example, the difference between worldwide poverty and the rich, the systems that are in place that support the status quo of these differences). A lot of this we covered in our reading last week, but this weeks reading adds a lot to it also. So, we will start off with the following outline, it may lead to some detours, however will deal with them as they occur.
