It's often challenging and rewarding at the same time to be a regional manger of a national chain of restaurants. The rewarding part is to see a purpose fulfilled and the excitement of being in a fast-moving and diverse field where a great combination for people with business sense and boundless energy abide. The challenging part is the controversial, ethical and law enforced issues that often stigmatize and paralyze the operation of a business. While they also help in regulating business standards, the way in which these laws are conducted can pose to be a threat to Regional Mangers like myself. Specifically, the new grading system for restaurants that may take effect in CT has raised some concerns. As a regional manager of ABC Restaurants with 6 of them located in various parts of CT, I believe the implementation of certain aspects of the inspection law should be reevaluated and changed based on the disadvantages that Managers might face because of a low publicized grade. I want to further explain my stance on the controversial aspect of the procedure. It is not the inspection itself that I disagree with because I am in favor of the purpose of implementing a law that regulates and safeguards public health and ensures consumers food is safe, premises clean, and presentable. There should be an equally advantage for both parties because the law itself is already favored towards consumers by providing them with very comprehensive information about ABC restaurants violations and inspection. For managers, the specifics of the new regulations should permit restaurants receiving an A grade post their mark at the end of the inspection and if the grade is lower than an A, the restaurant can wait until a second review by a different inspector within that month that would permit a letter change. During this time managers can maybe put a sign that says awaiting grade or anticipating grade at the end of the month. Not publicly posting a grade they received from CT health department can eliminate or limit the embarrassment and humiliation of a letter grade does not magnify or represent the establishment as a whole. With this being said, ABC restaurant association will also lobby the health department to exempt all nonfood-related violations such as burned-out light bulbs, leaky faucets and improperly posted signs from the letter-grade calculation. Basing the letter grades on minute issues that
