According to the National Resources Defense Council, 64,000 people in the US are likely to die prematurely due to causes linked to air pollution. 30,000 of which are just related to coal-fired power plant pollution alone. The emissions of power plants create mercury, which falls to the earth and enters the food chain. Too much Mercury can cause birth defects or death. 40% of deaths world wide are cause by pollution, much of which is contributed by fossil fuel usage. While some may arguer that you are mere likely to just develop short-term effects of air pollution such as respiratory infections or bronchitis, the long term effects are still a risk. Chronic Respiratory Disease, Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, or damage to vital life organs such as your brain are all possible health risks from the air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels.

The Environment and Energy Study Institute recognizes all of these problems. EESI was created in 1984 by a group of congress to provide information and develop policy solutions to set us on a cleaner energy path. For the past three years, EESI has been noted as a 4 Star Charity; which is the highest level a charity can receive. Everyday, they set out to discover new ways to save our environment from its current problems with global warming, the destruction of the ozone layer, and other major risks. They work hard to find energy alternatives such as biodiesel to help save humans and the environment alike.

Thanks to EESI's work with congress, they have turned around America's view of the usage of fossil fuels. America leads the world into change, a lot of thanks should go to EESI and the policies they have created in working with congress.
