In this assignment, you will view the movie Crash written by Paul Haggis and analysis characters in the story. Crash illustrates the intersections of a multi-ethnic cast of characters as they weave in and out of one another's lives and struggle to overcome their fears. In the grey area between black and white, victim and aggressor, this film expressively demonstrates that there are no easy answers. Made for mature audiences, you will focus on the underlying message of the movie and the growth of each character, taking into consideration personal biases, prejudices and stereotypes. Some scenes are harsh and realistically true. This movie will make you think about the nature of biases and stereotypes (Crash 2004).

Movie:

While viewing this film, follow one character and make notes on how this character evolves throughout the movie. Observe how the character views them self, as well as this character's interactions and perceptions of others. Observe and analyze their personal biases, prejudices, and stereotypes. Think also of one character that you could relate to.

Analysis

Choose one character from the list provided. Write an analysis of the one character's views. Use the following questions to support your analysis.

* In addition to referencing the film Crash use 3 references from ECE 209 and ECE 215 course materials. Include in text citations and references to support your analysis. Provide up to 4 to 5 pages.

1. How does this one character view other people of different colour, race or economic class? Describe and analyze in detail the biases. Give examples of how this character demonstrated these biases.

2. Describe and analyze how this character interacted with others.

3. How did this character change throughout the movie? What circumstances made the character change?

4. Which other character can you relate to? Why? Compare and contrast scenarios from the movie, and your own personal experiences where similarities might have occurred.

5. Evaluate how this movie changed your perceptive of others?
