Introduction

Health psychology was field in psychology focusing on understanding psychological influences on how people remains healthy person, why they became ill, and how they reacting when they get ill. It focuses in health promotion and maintenance, prevention and treatment of diseases. Health psychology related to all health aspects and disease across human life span. Health psychologists focus in health promotion and maintenance, which includes issue like that when how to get children develop good health habits, steps to support regular exercise, and how for them a media campaign to get person increase their diet.

My habits and how I struggled

I used to try cutting back my smoking habit previously where it ended sadden as I failed to quit. I tried to quit smoking many, many times before I finally made it stick. Failing time and time again can get pretty discouraging. However, with all the stop-smoking ads going around, I really felt guilty about smoking and that is where I finally realize that me smoking is actually giving impact to the second smoker. After having my first child, I finally agree that smoking parents are giving a bad impact to their children when my child know what is cigarette and a lighters at a very young age.

During my first trial, I've tried to take fewer cigarettes in one day. I used to be a heavy-smoker having almost 1 pack a day is a must. Therefore, from my friend suggestion, I've been trying my best to have at least half of my regulars pack in one day. To avoid my desires for having one, I have chewing gums and candies with me everywhere I go. Besides, doing exercise is another efforts I've done during my first week of trial. After my first jogging section, I actually realize that I have difficulty to breath. From my knowledge of doing research, the cigarette actually its major caused. After going for more jogging section, I'm getting better as I realize its has bring good impact to me. I actually manage to take only 3 of cigarette a day in my second week of my quit smoking agenda. Besides, I realize that during my quitting trial, I've been more depressed but somehow an increased in appetite.

It's been effective for the first 12 days of my trial. However, during my second week with my working shift changed from night till dawn, my needs to smoke have come back due to cold atmosphere. I have greater anxiety and stress during that period of time, due to lack of sleep and I did not manage to go for my jogging session as during my first week. With a sleeping disturbance due to the feeling of irritability and anxiety, I started to take a little more cigarettes. I have a difficulty on concentrating during my working hours and feeling restlessness. Going for a medical consultation, I came out with a result of decreasing in my heart rate. Unfortunately, I failed to quit, as I don't have much commitment after all.

Tips to quit smoking and its pros and cons

Counseling

Smoker can go for expert professional medical to get advice in a proper way stop. Apart from that, one can go for stop smoking classes because more intensive intervention by clinicians. Group counseling was another method, which could increase smoker's confidence to stop. A group of smoker that has same aim to quit is something that can be supportive to each other to achieve their goals. Using a support group can help you form one plan of attack and provide you with support and encouragement from others that are going through same struggle.

Family and friend support

First of all, quitting is different for each smoker. Ask your friends and family for support. If you feel the urge to smoke, it can be helpful to have someone to call for support and encouragement. One needs to have motivation in themselves as they "Can Quit Smoking no matter what!" Besides, peer influences are another factors that can help one in quitting. Friend have to make the quitter think that he or she can make it, even if she has tried to quit before and failed. In fact, most smokers have to go thru a few failed quitting experiences before they quit for good. Besides, the people whom always by the smoker side need to be ready to help during their first few days after the smoker quit. From my experience, I've been talking all the time and really wish for an extra support when a tough situation comes up especially during working time as a police officer.

Consult doctor for prescription suggestion

Ask your doctor, pharmacist or local stop smoking service for advice about products to help you stop smoking. Using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), or a medication such as bupropion (Zyban) or varenicline (Champix), can more than double your chance of stopping smoking successfully.

Withdrawal symptoms

When you quit smoking, you'll likely to face the side effects of nicotine withdrawal. We all know that nicotine is a very addictive substance found in cigarettes. Many smokers do have symptoms during the first few weeks after they quit. Some common ones are trouble in sleeping, lack of concentration and always feeling anxious or restless.

Both of ones moods and emotions are going to be affected. You will become irritable, depressed or anxious. Besides, in some situation, trying to quit smoking could make a person be grouchy, irritable, nervous or depressed. Most of the time, you feel you are "on edge" and unable to focus in your routines. Things that would normally take you 15 minutes to complete but today, you've been staring at it for an hour. These symptoms are real, however it will not last long as in a week or two, but it will get better. Keep in mind that these are not serious enough to raise concern and if things don't improve after a few weeks, then consult your physician.

Side Effects

Don't terror these quitting side effects as the best way to overcome this is to start doing what you have to do. As soon as you're doing it, you will forget about the urge to light a cigarette. During the withdrawal stage, you might experience difficulty in going to sleep and the quality of your sleep might be extremely poor.
