After reading the case, I fell like both sides had great arguments in order to prove their point. I do believe whenever women is pregnant or it planning on becoming pregnant one of the important thing she would need to do is to live a healthy life. She would need to eats food that is nourishing for her and the baby, she going to need a lot of rest, it is also a good idea for her to exercise on the regular, and these entire things will be helpful for her and her baby. The mother to be should avoid anything that may cause her baby to be harm. For a mother to be too knows that using illegal drugs can cause harm to your baby as you still decide to do it anyway that is wrong. According to an article that was by the daily news in 2010 each month there is about one hundred babies who are born with some kind of drugs symptoms withdrawal. Pregnant woman really should know that a lot of the baby organs and systems are formed in the first few weeks of the pregnancy also, after the ten week the baby begin to grow in order to gain size and weight. Use certain drugs at the stage can cause dangers to the baby organs systems such eyes, ears, mouth, these drugs can also cause damage to nervous system as well. If they continue doing drugs it can lead to premature delivery, miscarriage and one of the greatest damage drugs can cause at this stage is that it can interfere with growth of the baby and the baby can be born underweight where he/she will have to stay at the hospital, the baby might have many different kind of health issues and may even cause the death of the baby. We also have to keep in mind just because a drugs is not illegal that does not mean it will not harm the baby believe that Pregnant women have to be very careful what they put in the body while they are Pregnant (Sheigla Murphy and Paloma Sales).
This case was a very difficult case. The case focus on how women who was using drugs while they were Pregnant are being charge and convicted for child abuse before they even give birth to the child was a very interesting point in according to the case of Whitner vs. South Carolina in which the court would find that state would use the word child in order to define the fetus and stayed that the state was not in violating of whitner Constitutional right of privacy for punishing her, due to the fact that she exposed her baby to illegal activity at an early stage (Levine, 2010). There is no doubt that it is a horrible thing for a woman to use drugs during pregnancy for no good reason at all, they have expose her child to a life time of pain and suffer. There are lots of women who want kids but can't have kids, then you have those who have them to act as if the life of a child means nothing for them to the point where they are willing to put the baby in harm's way is wrong. As the healthcare administrator and knowing what the action of these women will cause that child a life time of pain, you can't but to take in consideration
