Heroin Addiction in Philadelphia
Hello everyone it’s me Izunna Ikpeama a sociologist from New Jersey, and I am here to share with you all my recent findings about heroin addiction presumably in Philadelphia. I have been assigned the task of conducting a research study on heroin addiction in the Philadelphian society. What I found however doesn’t exactly make Philadelphia seem like the oh so great American city it’s said to be.
I would like to share with you all the first research method I used when studying the heroin addiction in Philadelphia which was the level of crime that takes place within Philadelphia over the years. Heroin is often tracked with the international crime ring in this city and the crime rate ranges at nearly 26.2%. This is only second to Chicago who has a crime rate of 28.4% which is still increasing. I felt this research method would be useful due to heroin addictions starting within gangs who sell it to others in the organized crime ring.
My second research method that I used was the death by injury rate in Philadelphia. It should come as no surprise that drug overdose is now the leading cause of death in America. However, the increased death by injury rate in Philadelphia from heroin overdose is something to be looked at thoroughly. Since high grade heroin is sold inexpensively in Philadelphia more addicts are likely to be attracted to it since its within their price range. But what happens when they realize they can get high grade heroin for a cheaper price? They keep going back and buying more than they should which leads to overdose and ultimately death. The death by injury rate has increased by 33.6% as a result over drug overdose. I picked this research method because it gives a cause and effect of what a heroin addiction in Philadelphia has caused which is overdose and death.
