Concentration-
Concentration is our mental focus on a task we face, the higher our concentration levels, the better the performance will be. They're three different types of concentration, these being:
Sustained concentration- sustained concentration is used for sports such as football, running, cycling, distance running and tennis.
Short bursts of concentration- short bursts of concentration occur in sports like cricket, golf and throwing events in athletics.
Intense concentration- Intense concentration can take place in sporting activities such as sprinting, skiing and snowboarding.
If we have good concentration, our performance in training or a sporting event will enable us to:
- Perform our skills and techniques comfortably and correctly.
- Ensure that we train and perform to a high level
- Avoid distraction while performance
- Make the right decision when needed
- Have the knowledge of what is occurring around you in a game
If we lose concentration in training or a sporting event the following could occur:
- make silly mistakes that would not normally happen
- Anxiety
- People distracting you from the sidelines
- Focus on other things around you and not the game
- Weather issues
- Lack in confidence
When in a game situation different things can always affect your concentration, such as weather conditions, people shouting from the sidelines, a fear of making mistakes in a game and also anxiety being nervous in a game can affect performance massively.
Merit
In football by having good concentration in training and in matches, the performance from a player will improve. For example if a player had high concentration levels in training they would be focused on the task they need to do, doing them to the best level and also developing on new skills, also fitness levels would improve from the deterination, effeort and concentration to perform to a high standard. By having high concentration levels it also enables you to perform highly in a game; for example, if a player was fully focused with high concetration during a game, then they would be more invloveld within their own performance.
