Economic effects

Effects on the household As one person in a family receives the virus of AIDS, the household impacts start to develop. This causes effect to the rest of the family because the people living in the house will have to take care of the patient and therefore miss school of work. The patient affected will eventually start losing some of their income. If the patient dies, the income is eliminated. If the mother is the one infected, the death of her will cause the children to become orphans.

Effect on agriculture Agriculture is the biggest factor that Botswana depends on. Mining is also a big factor that enhances the economy of Botswana. Aids affect this sector because as people are being infected, there is less labor provided to maintain the agriculture sector. As the prevalence rate is increasing in Botswana, the labor force is decreasing which creates a low maintenance and provision on the agriculture sector.

Effects on firms/industry Aids affect firms and industries such as the mining sector which provides a large percentage of income to the country. The illness caused by Aids creates unemployment and less labor force for industries. Botswana's growth rate has decreased and that also affects the labor force. The mining sector cannot develop and provide earnings to the country if the labor force is low. Botswana is a LEDC and so machinery and technology has not been developed in the industry section so the country mostly depends on the labor force
