Holly Is Fantastic

I had to do a lot of begging and grovelling to get her back," McIlroy said. "Holly is fantastic. I have known her for six years and for someone my age that is a huge chunk of my life. She keeps my feet on the ground and knows the things to say to me. She has been such a great support. She takes my mind off golf and everything else that is going on."
This isn't the first time Rory has mentioned Holly when talking about the U.S. Open. After the win, McIlroy mentioned that Sweeney was a huge reason he was able to win that event, and it seems that the two are very happy with each other. It's also good for your golf game when you have somebody there that you love and can trust, because we all know how hard it is to keep our minds at bay when playing 18 holes.
I will say this -- I've had my fair share of relationships start and end. I've never won the U.S. Open, which is why a millionaire, who is becoming more and more famous by the millisecond, convincing his ex-girlfriend to come back to him is surprising.
But, still, kids in love. Can't beat it. Relationships are tough, but are they really tough for a golfer who just won the U.S. Open?
That's the question Rory McIlroy tackled in a documentary this last weekend aired over on the BBC Northern Ireland. McIlroy, who won the U.S. Open last month by eight shots at Congressional, broke up with his girlfriend, Holly Sweeney, before the start of the 2011 season to focus more on his game.
He told the BBC that he quickly realized that was a mistake, and that he must get the 22-year-old from Nothern Ireland back.
