My view about homeless people:
In our today society, especially in the current recession which started in 2008, many people are unable to live in big house and enjoy the basic standard of living, also there are many people even don't have a home to stay who ultimately become homeless. Before taking this class I barely felt bad for them and the way I was thinking was these people, all of them , are lazy, selfish and sometime disgusting who try to take advantage of government benefits, if they cloud , which are funded by taxes payers' money. I was always wondering why they don't just find a job and fight to make a better life by whatever it takes like other people in our society. I believed this is the path that they chose and don't want to change it.
But this class has changed my view about most of them. Now I realize some of the adult homeless people suffer from some form of mental illness which unable them to perform essential routines of daily life and also affect their physical health. They just loos all hope and don't care about themselves anymore therefore they don't see the point in trying to put their life back together.
Now the way I look at them is different. I think they are vulnerable people who need help and society needs to provide treatment, services and housing for them. I also would like to devote my time as volunteer in a homeless shelter in near future even though I won't be able to support them financially but at least can support them mentally. But, I still don't feel bad and sympathize with the group of homeless people who are not mentally ill and can work and live like normal people but they want to live as homeless.
