In our society, homelessness is a serious problem not just in America but worldwide. With taxes racing, the economy has grown and each year millions lose their jobs. That may cause many person to be homeless because of low income, domestic violence, or mental illness which are some of the few leading causes.

So lack of skills accounts for more people being homeless than low income. Being a high school dropout doesn't really help much, leaving them with the low-paying jobs. With the lack of unemployment, income needs feel impossible to meet. Marriages are being torn apart and sometimes with all the stress violence start happening (Ranr, Sue). This limits women's choices and makes it harder for them to escape violent relationship.

Domestic violence is a great factor in homelessness. Many youth and young adults who are homeless have experienced violence in their homes. They flee away, with nowhere to go so the only solution is out in the streets. In the absence of sufficient safe, affordable housing or stable shelter, many survivors join other homeless people living in public places. There, they face increased exposure to violence, as indicated by the shocking number of crimes committed against them: Homeless persons are the target of hate crimes, and rape is disturbingly prevalent for homeless women. (Domestic Violence and Homelessness). Having all these problems can affect peoples' self-esteem and stress can get high and then first action is to consume a drug or alcohol.

Homelessness is often associated with substance a of abuse. Abusing alcohol and drugs can be highly detrimental to the life of the individual. It can rob them of everything including their job, family, possessions, and friends (Homelessness and Substance Abuse). Every choice you made can result hurting the people you love and not only yourself.

Many view homelessness as a result of failure. But many don't know their stories; it could be due to violence in their homes, addictions or just a low income. Each and every person has a different story.
