Why do we watch Horror Movies Omar T Ferguson There are a number of theories as to why people like to watch horror movies. First off, some people do not care for them, and the largest audience for frightening film fare tends to be older teens and people in their early twenties. Nevertheless, there are mature audience member that still like the thrills and chills of horror movies. Therefore, we all have our reasons why we watch horror movies. As long as I can remember, I like to watch horror movies even if I know that I would have nightmares. I can remember the first movie that made me start having nightmares. It was the movie about that killer doll; the movie name was "Child Play". I would watch that movie and have some of the worst nightmares in my life. However, what really had me scared was my sister doll named Cricket, I mean this doll could walk, talk, and blink her eyes all on her own. So one day I was feeling like I was brave enough to watch Child Play Two by myself. By the time, I finished the movie I was scared of every sound I heard in the house. It was time to go to sleep for school in the morning and my mother ask me to go in the basement to, get some bacon out of the deep freezer, and get some bacon out. I was already scared from watching Child Play earlier in the day, so I went into the basement to do as my mother told me to do and when I got in the basement I saw Cricket, but I looked past my fear for a minute to get the bacon out of the deep freezer. Nevertheless, when I turn around with the bacon I saw Cricket walking towards me and blinking her eyes, I threw the bacon at the doll and start running as fast as I could to get out of the basement. Therefore, for two years straight whenever my sister would get a doll I would rip the head off and throw it onto the top of the garage. I swear at that time it was nothing more horrifying then a killer doll to me. However, as I got older I was able to watch Child Play and not be afraid about killer dolls and just see the funny lines the doll was using in the movie. I stop ripping the heads off my sister's dolls and am able to be in a room with Cricket all by myself and watch the movie at the same time. See I believed I used to watch the movie to overcome my fear and allow myself to move on from that stage in my life. See people watch horror movies for many different reasons, whether it be to beat a fear, get scared , or just to enjoy the movie. Nevertheless, as I started my motive to watch horror movies is to beat a fear of something.
