In the modern era, police and government officials use technology widely in providing a comfortable way of acting on several criminal issues. For instance, in United States, new and emerging technologies have enhanced the timely solution to crimes. Moreover, technology has assisted the police as an enforcement and investigation equipment. Although the infrastructure is relatively expensive, there is need to outfit the police and government officials with technological tools that will enable them work effectively. This paper illustrates the importance of technology in police and government officials in conducting their daily concerns.

Information is an important aspect in policing and technology has ensured better communication and sharing of information amongst the police and government officials. Availability of internet and increasingly power supply has also made communication quicker and now the public can communicate with police and government officials concerning crimes and community problems via their emails. Police patrol vehicles have sophisticated equipment such as the automated license plate readers that helps in checking the registration of the vehicles or configure the image of the driver. Furthermore, technology has equipped police and government officials with small gadgets such as body-worn video cameras, less lethal weapons as an alternative to bullets (Manning, 2008). Besides helping officers in patrolling, technology has changed the structure and operation of police and government officials, hence, the distribution of resources all through the police departments easily. An automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) uses digital imaging technology that helps to obtain, and store fingerprints in a database, which provides the identity of a suspect in a crime (Moriarty & Carter, 1998).

In conclusion, technology has perceived to have a good impact on quality of police and government officials services. In fact, it has improved the police and government official response to crimes. Computers and the internet have linked the law enforcement and community together, therefore, the public is able to share their views concerning the services provided by the police and government officials.
