Safety is the number one thing that is needed to be kept in mind when handling any kind of weapon. Another thing that one needs to know when handling a weapon is all the parts and pieces of the weapon. The next thing that someone needs to know when cleaning a weapon is simply know the step of how to clean the weapon.

first step in taking a weapon apart is clearing and making sure the weapon is safe. Make sure the weapon is pointed in a safe direction. First drop the magazine out of the weapon. There is a small round button near the handle, either on the left or right, also known as the safety. Push that button to where you cannot see the red. Next, pull back the slide, the top part of the weapon until it stops. If a bullet is in it then it will be ejected from the M9.

now that the weapon has been properly cleared, the second step is starting to disassemble the weapon. First thing to do is to pull back the top assembly, and at the same time turning the side lever up. The side lever is usually located on the left side of the M9 near the front. When this step is finish the top assembly should push forward and slide completely off of the bottom assembly.

The third and final step is to turn the top assembly upside down, and look at the spring and recoil guide. Then push them in, and pull up on both of them. When they are lifted out of the top assembly, pull the spring off of the barrel. When you have pulled the spring off the barrel, then the M9 is completely disassembled.

The most important thing about disassembling a weapon is to make sure safety is always put first. Always point the weapon away from everything and never at a person, even if it is unloaded. If these steps are followed properly then it should be very easy and safe to disassemble a M9, handgun.
