Conclusion
From the data we collected and analysis carried out, we concluded that the hours students spend on the internet per day varies immensely, with some spending almost 20 hours on the internet, a day! Furthermore, we saw that the majority of students in our sample of the university spent between RM100-RM300 a day however, there was one who spent almost RM600 - perhaps he or she is an avid gamer or loves to download a lot of movies and songs.
We used SPSS to form different graphs to analyse our respondents’ preferences, we received results that were largely unexpected. We assumed prior to carrying out the surveys that the most commonly used device would be smartphones since everyone has one in their hands however, we were proved wrong for most of the respondents opted for laptops. Another interesting conclusion we derived from the data analysed was that students prefer to use the internet to social network on sites like Facebook and Twitter over communications apps like WhatsApp and Line.
Following the hypothesis test for one population mean we performed, to determine if the average age of all our respondents averaged at 20 years, we found out that the majority of students in our batch are below the age of 20 - most of them around 19 years of age. Therefore, we understood that not a lot of students took gap years following their pre-university years in our batch. Overall, we concluded that the use of internet is vital for any university student to be able to carry out their assignments successfully whilst still balancing their entertainment needs and social lives.
