Today , flying from Paris to Moscow can be considered a routine trip. In 1938, no one could cross Germany through the air without the blessing of Adolph Hitler. Without his approval, any aircraft would be easy prey for his ravenous Luftwaffe. One man defied Hitler's authority and evaded his Nazi air force in pursuit of all things, a world record. This man's name is Howard Hughes.

The story of Howard outrunning the Nazi Air Force is true and
took place in the summer of 1938 as Hughes was attempting to break the world record of a flying around the world, which he beat by almost half.

Howard Hughes was born in Houston, Tx on Christmas Eve of 1905 to Howard and Allene Hughes. Howard Sr. was the owner of Hughes Tool Company which owned some very lucrative patents for drill bits used in the infant oil industry. After his father's untimely death in 1924 Howard Jr took over the family business. It is true Howard Jr, was born into a wealthy family but, for Howard, taking over the family business was only a starting point and it is very likely he would have pursued his dreams with or without the silver spoon.

Why is he worthy of Tribute?
Howard was a pioneer in aviation, movies, business, communication and guidance systems, the founder of the HHMI and, the U.S. first billionare. His determination to overcome any obstacle to succeed is a prime example example of what america stands for.

Producing and Directing several films in the 20's and 30's

Hollywood until the 1950's
