Humanities Today
Humanities to me means all types of creativity, art, and the way it has evolved over the years. This includes everything from music, painting, literature, architecture, and philosophy. The way humanities distinguishes from other forms of human inquiry is that humanities has more to do with a person's creativity and what they can create by using different tools such as instruments or paint brushes. Other forms of human inquiry are more of a scientific and mathematical that has formulas and certain answers and explanations for certain things. Humanities can be anything the human mind can come up with and they have the possibility to make it a reality.
I'm not the most knowledgeable person in humanities but I do know a little. Art has been around for as long as anyone can remember. Looking at how artists styles and paintings have progressed throughout the years is pretty amazing. Long ago they didn't have the materials that are available now and didn't have colors either but there were still amazing pieces that were created. Technology has helped to progress art, where now there are artists who can create really nice pieces digitally. Art is also something that rarely loses its value and as a matter of fact the value usually rises the older it is.
Music is another form of humanities that has come a long way over the years. From when people would make simple music from hitting whatever they could get their hands on to a certain beat and singing along all the way until the present where we have orchestras, rock bands, and DJs. Technology has also been tremendous in bringing music to another level over the years. Most instruments can be hooked up to amplifiers and heard from hundreds of feet away. The more and more technology that we continue to develop just continues to make people's ideas come to life.
Architecture, literature, and philosophy are three other forms of humanities. These are the ones I know least about, however, just from previous classes I have taken you can definitely notice the way architecture has changed throughout the years. I'm sure there were political factors throughout the times that contributed to the styles of the architecture during the times. Same goes with literature and philosophy. If you read different pieces of literature throughout the different times, you could get a pretty good idea about how technology, socioeconomic status, and how politics were during that period. I will be very honest when I say that philosophy is my least knowledgeable subject out of all of these different forms of humanities. The way I see it, it is almost right alongside the way literature has come along. Knowing the philosophers of the different time periods would also give you a similar idea to the way people were living and their beliefs during that specific time.
