I May Be a Teacher but Not a Good Educator - Article Review

In the article I May Be a Teacher, But I'm Not an Educator written by John Gatto, lets people know what are the main reasons he wants to quit his job as a teacher. He believes that people are misunderstanding the word education and that he doesn't want to be involved in this kind of situation any longer. He also explains that almost 90 percent of schools have a similar curriculum in which they teach children to follow orders and do what teachers want them to do. John Gatto makes a clear point about government schooling in which he states that it kills the relationship between the child and his/her family by monopolizing the best times of childhood and by teaching disrespect for home and parents.

Now that I have read this article, I realize the importance of a good quality of education in children's lives. For example, when I was a child I always was taught to follow my teacher's orders and not to think by my own. I believe that this kind of teaching method is not good for children because it teaches them to depend on someone else and never look for positive solutions for their own. In my case, I was getting used to depend on my teachers and parents and every time a new problem arrived, I couldn't find any better solution that cry for hours. I believe that teachers should teach their students to think and solve some problems or at least make some opinions.

In my opinion, this article is really helpful and it gives us the reasons why we need to change our teaching methods. We don't our children to be dependent all their lives. We want our children to learn all the good things at school so they can be good citizens in the future.
