I. Introduction:
A. Attention Getter:
The cactus is a hardy plant that symbolizes endurance and strength. Cacti live in areas that are inhospitable and extremely arid, yet cactus not only survives, it will bloom and produce beautiful flowers. A cactus tells a person you care about them no matter how difficult life is, you believe in her power to blossom.
B. Credentials:
I may not know a whole lot about cacti but I do know a thing or two about surviving life and what it throws at you.
C. Tie to Audience:
As you all know I had my first son at the age of 16 and this was no easy task to overcome.
D. Thesis Statement:
Now each and every one of us is entitled to have their own opinion on life as we experience it in different ways; however, I am a strong believer that life has a funny way of working itself out.
E. Preview of main points:
Today I am going to tell you how I endured different adversities in my life which led to strength and how, not only am I a survivor but I will flourish/thrive in whatever life throws at me.
Transition:
I would like to start with a few adversities that I went through as a teenager.
II. Body:
A. Main point one (adversity):
Now high school years are supposed to be a time for fun and exciting events in every adolescent's life. There are parties, ball games, and local hang out joints where we could all meet. All combined to making high school the most memorable years of any teenage girl's life. However, my experience took an uneventful turn in my freshman year. My carefree ways had to end and a new wave of responsibility was presented to me.
1. Supporting info:
I found out I was two months pregnant. My thoughts tugged at my conscience, how was I to tell the father of my unborn child? Would my parents support my decision?
2. Supporting info:
I had to forget about my partying ways and hanging with my friends. My freedom days of coming and going were about to be over and I quickly became the girl about whom everyone was talking.
3. Supporting info:
I finally mustered up the courage to tell my parents. Of course they were very disappointed but no one was more disappointed in me than I was. I would ask myself over and over again, "What am I going to do?" "How am I going to get through this?" I realized that the decision I was about to make was going to affect everyone around me, no matter what.
