"Imperialism is a result of the alliance between the various interest groups and ideas such as altruism, national honor, surplus population, economic nationalism, and self protection. Empire building is not done by a nation as a whole but by individuals and groups" (Moon, 1972). As a result of this definition and this quote the adoption of imperialism make sense in America and to make this policy national was imperative, but do most Americans agree with this policy? I think so, because if they did not agree with this policy we the people would have been done did something to change it. If America would had not adopted this policy some events would not be taking place today. Due to the adoption of this policy America became aligned with several countries of the world. I ask the question is imperialism a good or bad thing for the country and what issues does imperialism bring to the country?
Us as Americans must remember when we are at war or when our economy is good or bad and when we are in a recession, the media use the pronoun we which really stand for the individuals or groups that represents America in this imperial society. Business interest is the foremost active imperialist groups in our society. We export more cotton, yarn, iron and steel, tools, machinery, coal, Kerosene and locomotives than anything else and as a result the companies that make these products are the imperialistic groups. When I hear we are in a recession the first thought that comes to my mind is these companies that export major goods to other countries are in a recession and we need to pull them out. Certain words that we use can make the mind think that the statement made is referring to everyone, but in truth the statement is mainly referring to a particular person, place or thing. For instance, at work your boss may say we need to sell more shoes to stay in business. I would interpret that as saying the CEO of the company wants more money and therefore we must sell more shoes for him. He is the imperial individual that will make the huge gain. That is a prime example of this imperial policy we have adopted. In this imperialism society I must include the imports such as British tea, Belgians rubber and palm nuts from Congo and Frenchman who import wine from Algeria are important factors of imperialism. Furthermore it is important to have sufficient governments that protect these goods. When this occurs there is a high demand for public works, dams and railways. I must include the foremost biggest influential group of all...I must mention the bankers. They not only have direct interest in imperialism, but they are the ones that really fund all these industries. In order to stop those imperialistic groups or individuals are slim to none because they have the backing of thee banks. Moreover they have the backing of the military as a matter of fact I would say, the military is the allies of the special individual and groups that control the imperialistic society we know today.
In the early nineteenth century missionaries went around the world to influence other nations to join the imperialistic movement and that is how many different countries where conquered either by war or by religion. Politicians also have big
