The movie Gia was really good. It shown problems such as self-esteem issues. Family issues, relationships and Aids. But two issues that really stood out to me were the drugs used and the abandonment issue. These issues affected her throughout her life; it had led her to do actions she chose to do and ended up dying at a young age.
The abandonment issues started when her mother left her father and the rest of the family. Leaving Gia didn't have that mother figure to look up to. I felt bad because she didn't have any real guidance. Gia became the complete opposite of her mother, through style, attitude, and character. Gia had then had a friend name TJ. They became really close friends. She became a model, he left her, and she didn't want him to go because she would be alone, just like when her mother left her. Gia would meet a girl who she had a thing for and her name was Linda. Gia became attached to Linda very quickly. Although Linda had liked Gia back, Linda had to leave to hr boyfriend and Gia didn't want that. It hurt Gia because all she wanted to do is be loved and not to be alone. A while after that, her mother would be back but leave and then stays consist. People coming in and out her life is what caused her to use drugs.
When Gia's mother left her, Gia had started smoking cigarettes at a young age. I felt that wasn't good because she would probably turn to illegal drugs sooner or later, when she was with her friend Tj, she started smoking marijuana. Tj left, she couldn't sleep so she had the help from her mentor Wilhelmina to take a sleeping pill. As you may know sleeping pills are legal but very addicting which Gia used those often. She was then introduced to cocaine by a model. At that point in the movie I knew that things were not going in a good direction for Gia. The time when Linda left her and she was hurt she would use cocaine to block out her problems. It was when Gia was introduced to sniffing heroine when she became addicted. The problems of Gia's drug usage was blockage of the pain her mother and Linda leaving her constantly. When Wilhelmina passed away, her mentor, another person who left her, it was like Gia's breaking point. Gia got worse she got to the point that she became sick of the drugs that she needed to get better. As I would say "desperate time's calls for desperate measures," went to a junkie allies and injected heroine and got raped. That caused her to get Aids which she wouldn't find out until days before she died. Gia then went to a rehab center. After a while she would go back to drugs because Linda hurt her and would soon leave Gia again. At this point Gia would choose drugs over Linda. Really because she didn't have no-one, it was a downfall to her career. Gia would go to rehab, actually get clean but get sick because of the Aids that she got. She died at the age of twenty-six.
