What is a strategy?

If we look at a general definition to the word ‘strategy’ we find “a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.” Another definition is “the art of planning a campaign or large military operation.” Yet, we can’t find a unified definition to this word and one reason for this is that people think about strategy in different ways.

Strategy could have other meanings that depend on where it is used. In other words, the meaning of strategy has multiple definitions that are related to the fields that used in, such as business, medical and technology fields. For instance, you can hear this word in sports when the coach is talking to the players in order to give them plans of the playing like defense strategy or attack strategy. In the business field, the word of strategy has another meaning which is approach or method has been followed in order to accomplish the desired objective.

However, I believe in our class we focus on strategy that is related to “Information Technology” to obtain studies and researches in order to create new applications and systems that align with both organizations' business plan and organizations' business process. These new applications and systems will help to develop and support the organizations' business. As a result, this can surely facilitate some business functions and will make organizations goals easier to reach.

Large firms are concerned with management of strategy, therefore, they are spending a significant cost out of their budget in order to put the right strategy for the organization that will help to reach organization's goals.

In my opinion, strategy means how to achieve your goals through long term plans.
