The Navy is an organization that has been around for over 238, and in that time it has developed its own strengths and weaknesses. Just like any other company, they have to use both of them to their advantages to get the job done. Does an organization that is own by the government have to have competitive advantages, and if they do are they against other units or department within itself? Since I'm been in the United States Navy what weaknesses have stood out to me, and are they weaknesses that is hurting the operation and the readiness? We must use checks and balances to keep us on the right course if we want to be a successful company.
The United States Navy has over 285 ship, and around 320,000 sailors, with a mission that can be on land, sea, and air. The biggest strength that make this company vision come true day in and day out is the size as a whole. Every part of this force has a different view of the mission, and as a collective whole the vision of the Navy is strong. Everyone takes pride in their work, and benefits from the pay, and allowances that they earn. Some would call it brain washing, and other would call it unity, but overall it is the backbone that we make each sailor stand upon to build this company. We are fruition as a whole. If the Navy was doing the wrong thing, the United States people would cut all funds and dismantle the Navy. We know it is hard watching our Sailors get underway, and be gone for long periods of times, but the American people stand behind us when we are doing the right thing. The Navy has shown up to help Americans with recent national disasters, help protect the water ways, and keep America free. The military is a "thankless job," until you are in need of help. We are a strong company because our vision is for the good.
The Navy has competition in many different arenas from different branches, to each unit or command with in the Navy. There are competitions in each harbor, of who is the best ship, on the waterfront. To which is the best in each class of ship around the world, to include the best galley, safest ship, and who can pass their inspections. But the major competitive vantage that the Navy has over other branches is our functions. The size, function, and life expectancy of our ships will outlast materials needed by other branches. A ship can do more and operate off its own resources,
