The food choices that people make are influenced by what's around them. It can
vary from cultural foods, to foods bought off street carts and even fast food
restaurants. Even our daily shopping at the supermarket is affected by our
surroundings. These are what we call the external factors that influence our choices.
Along with these external influences we have a sort of agency tied into our purchases
that is controlled by large companies. Just like with anything that is almost forced
upon us there are negative outcomes attached.
In certain neighborhoods you may find a variety of food choices. Food carts have
a big influence in the selection of meals for both public schools and office workers.
The food that's being brought from these carts may not be all that healthy but it's still
being brought because of its convenience and price. There are many factors that
determine what foods a person eats. In addition to personal preference, there are
cultural, social, economic, religious, and even some political factors. For example
vegetarians are influenced by their choices not to eat meat this is based on their
personal belief that eating animals is wrong. The complexities of the food choices we
make become simplified when we look at people for who they are. As Brillat Savarin
once said "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are."
social changes have a big effect on the food industry. Our fast paced society
demands drive thru restaraunts, gas stations now have convenient stores that can be
accessed at any time of the day. Although the foods may be close and convenient they
are not too healthy for you. Sometimes the food may have been sitting around for days
even weeks before the person is even acknowledged. these foods can make you
become a diabetic, they also can have some unhealthy ingredients to keep the food
from going bad.
