Julia Burney used to live in a poor house. Her parents had children at a young age so that they didn't finished their schooling and unable to read or write well. Every time her parents brawled fiercely, the appearance of the police and a peaceful family had become her dream. The love of reading made her write and speak well. The books she brought home were been put atop the refrigerator for her parents regarding them unaffordable. However, she found love at aunt Ruby's house and became a determined girl keeping away from drugs, alcohol and smoking.
After she became a police officer, she was good at dealing calls to home. Then she realized that books could inspire hope and dreams to children. By chance, she got great amount of donated books and her team began to give books to children who need. She received the Oprah's "Use your life well" award and $100,000 for the supplies in Cops' n kids center. By telling Julia a white lie, the Oprah's team and an army of people redecorated the center secretly. The reading center then became a more suitable place for children.
With many people's devotion, children had chance learn to read and organize their thought on the paper. Both younger and elder children were benefited at the reading center. Children learned both book skills and life skills at the center. By the guest reader, children opened their sight for a wider world so that they could think over what they want to be in the future. Julia never buries her tragic past. She taught children not to blame on the current life but preparing for a better future. After she retired from the police force, she devoted her all effort to the Cops' n kids reading center.
