These past two years I have been involved in extracurricular activities in school and some volunteer work in and outside of school. I worked at Kaiser as a volunteer and I helped organize files, send out mail to the employees and clean out cabinets. During my work at Kaiser I worked for about 80 hours and I was able to utilize those hours for my community service. I have also worked at my old elementary school library. I helped the students check books in and out. I also read to the younger students and helped make posters for school events. At school I joined the soccer team because it is one of my favorite sports and I live for it. Although I didn't make the varsity team and I wasn't able to play this year due to an ankle injury I help make posters to promote the games and support my fellow classmates. I'm also part of an Info Tech club which helps organize events to help fundraise for our Info Tech Academy at our school. I also participate in the yearbook staff at our school where we create the yearbook and show all the fun memories there is.
I would like to attend college because I don't want to have a job I want to have a career. I live in a city filled with poverty. I see many of my friends that have graduated still living at home with their parents having an okay life. Some of these friends tell me not to be like them they encourage me to go to college to have a great life. I also want to go to college because my parents are so encouraging and helpful that when it comes time to it I want to be the one to take care for them. I want to be another example like my older sister for my younger sibling. I want to let her know that even though we live in a pretty bad neighborhood we can still make it big if we stay focused. My teachers also influenced me because I come from a small school where we can have a one on one connection with a teacher. These teachers don't just teach and get class over with they help us and care for us. I want to attend college because I want to have a great career then come back to my hometown and give back to my community. I want to be an example for the younger kids to show them that if I could do it they can do it too.
In my opinion I don't think that my grades in high school reflect my academic ability or potential. I may not have the best grades and I could've done better but I went to school to learn. I know I can accomplish great things and these grades don't reflect me. I know that within myself I have the eagerness that I need to go to college graduate and start my career.
I got denied the fee waiver to send my college applications so I was only able to apply too only two colleges. My parents apparently make too much money but they don't. They make enough money to be able to provide food clothes and shelter for us. My parents both have small cars with some troubles due to the fact we can't afford new cars right now.
