There have been several opportunities which gave me the chance to work with different leadership styles. Dictatorship, mic-managing, as well as passive leadership styles have all been a part of my experiences in the business environment. There have been several great leaders that I had the pleasure of meeting at an event. One of those individuals is Donald Dougherty. He is a local /manager for the Fios team at Verizon. His leadership still engages his technicians and they perform at an optimal level. Many of his technicians say that he is a fair manager. His expectations are high yet he would gladly do the same job he delegates to his technicians.

Don respects his technicians and will stand behind them in any issue if the technician used every means to complete a job and did not succeed. There are many different types of leadership models. According to Kirkbride (2006) "The Full Range Leadership Model is probably the most research and validated leadership model used today. Transformational leadership are highly correlated with leadership success.' This type of leadership depends upon behaviors. It s important to know your team, their strengths, weaknesses and capitalize on those attributes. Transformational leadership is a style that Don Dougherty uses with hi technicians. This leadership style is noted for transforming followers into leaders. The importance of understanding how a leader can successfully delegate duties to others with very little resistance.

Leadership in the public health environment suffers because the management teams are overworked and suffer burn out. According to Roper(2011) he states that there are Individuals that work in the public health field that suffer from poor morale, and being overworked. This can tend to the individuals seeking their help to suffer needlessly and end up in the poor circle of the system.

I had the opportunity to work with a team of forty eight individuals on a project. i wrote a historical documentary on the last twenty five years of an employee resource group within Verizon. My responsibilities included delegating specific responsibilities to local historians to gather historical documents for their state. /many of the individuals knew of my work ethic and were willing to help out when needed. The project took two years, a lesson in supervising a team over a virtual network, and conflict resolution incidents. It was truly an experience in learning how to lead others through a product to completion. There were various individuals which were removed from the project due to their inability to perform specific tasks.
