LEAGLIZED MEDICAL MARIJUANA

The legalization of medical marijuana has become an increasingly controversial

topic, with many different issues, and many different options. Medical marijuana is legal

in 16 states for medical purposes. There are many doctors who currently support the

effectiveness of using marijuana for symptoms related to illnesses. With a doctors order,

possession limits, and growth of the plant in a controlled environment, marijuana use

for medical purposes should be made legal in every state.

The U.S. Department of justice reported, nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially

lethal effects. Marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive

medical literature describing a documented marijuana induced fatality. Lester Grinspoon

M.D., Professor at Harvard Medical School, stated in an editorial, " If marijuana were a

new discovery rather than a well known substance carrying cultural and political

baggage, it would be considered a wonder drug."

Medical marijuana can treat a wide variety of illnesses and medical problems

including glaucoma, the side effects of cancer chemotherapy, muscular spasticity

disorder, "the wasting syndrome" associated with Aids, epilepsy, severe pain , crohns

disease and more. In the states where marijuana is legal for use for medical purposes

having one of these diseases is a requirement to get a doctors order.

In Arizona, where medical marijuana is legal, patient are required to obtain a

physicians written certification that they have been diagnosed with a debilitating

condition that they would likely receive benefit for marijuana use. The law also requires

each patient register on a state registry, and carry a registry I.D. Card . There is a web

based verification system for law enforcement and dispensaries to verify registry I.D.

Cards. You have to purchase marijuana from a dispensary, and to enter into the dispensary you have to

show your registry card.
