The Lost Generation authors of 1914 were a group of writers identified that by that name by Gertrude Stein. The writers based their work in the effect World War I had on society and how they emotionally changed through time.
Our project was based mainly in the problems that surrounded the Lost Generation, the themes they focused in and the distractions that surrounded them. Our main drawing was the Eiffel Tower because it represents Paris and that were most of the inspiration and problems of the Lost Generation occur, it also represents that it was were these authors usually went "partying", Paris. Below the Eiffel Tower you can find a bottle of alcohol representing the way the writers in that time distracted themselves, this can also represent the decay of society and spirit of the age, where they drank lots of alcohol.
Inside the bottle you can see many drawings that represent the problems that were present during those times and they are drowning in the beer, it represents how they hide or in this case drowned their problems on alcohol. You can find a blue heart representing a lonely soul, and sentimental death; a gun and a grenade representing World War I. Faces can also be seen representing how people changed personalities and lies that came with it, how people hid behind those lies and pretended to be someone else; the colored background represents this as well because it is like a fake world where everyone pretends to be someone they are not.
Finally you can also see money because people during these times needed money to fulfill their desires and it gave them their place in society. The background of the bottle of beer is shadowing because it represents decay of society how everything is dark and there is lack of light, the opposite of what is written on The Waste Land where it says that he needed shadow.
On the bottle there's "Thirst" written, this represents the spiritual and sentimental thirst. As mentioned before on The Waste Land, people during this age had a lack of feelings and spirituality. Unreal city is also written on the Eiffel tower and it represents as T.S Elliot says himself "a heap of broken images" .
