Television Production

Ms. Hammond

My college experience has been interesting to say the least. I have done everything that I can think to do in college and I have had a blast. However, the one thing that eluded me for so long is that I could not figure out what I wanted to do with my life after I graduate. I'm a marketing major that doesn't really like business and I don't want to do that for the rest of my life. This past year came with a lot of changes and I realized that I was going down a road that I did want to go down. So I sat down and thought about what I really want to do and what I love to do. After a while I realized that I love movies. Therefore, I started doing research and I started asking around about how to become successful in the movie industry. Then I figured that I needed some experience before I can go work for someone. Once again, my marketing major hurt me because marketing has nothing to do with cinematography. An unpaid internship from 5am to 9am does not sound like any fun to me. However, I still needed the experience so I took it because it is all I have. It is my first step on a long journey to achieving my dreams. I'm glad I signed up. This has been one of the best experiences ever. My internship gives me a wealth of knowledge that I couldn't have obtained from simply reading books or having a teacher give a lecture on television production. I learn something new every day and that is all I want. Also, my advisors and my peers are willing to help me learn. They have given me books and are just as enthusiastic about teaching me as I am about learning. I have had a lot of fun on set and behind the scenes, so much so that waking up at four in the morning isn't so hard any more.

My main goal is to learn everything about every position. Whether it's the video operator, the technical director, CG operator, the Sound board operator, set director, camera man, or even the anchorman, I want to know how to do all of their jobs. This way, I can not only get a job but become a successful director as well. I'm considering trying to work here after I graduate so that I can gain more experience and start on my career. This gives me time to learn and to figure out where I'm going next.

My college education has helped me dearly. Even though marketing isn't
