There are many artifacts that have been found and relate to African American Culture. Musical instruments such as trumpets have been around since the 1800's specifically contributed to this culture. A trumpet is a musical instrument made of brass. The instrument sounds off by the player blowing into the mouthpiece located on the end of the musical instrument. The three valves on the top of allow the player to change the notes of the instrument. In the 1800s the trumpets were made of conch shells.

I anticipate that this artifact will be passed down to future generations by its display at the Smithsonian Institution and the history of Louis Armstrong being continuously told over time. The continued use of trumpets used in college and high school bands will also be a way. As long as the instruments are still being used as a part of music appreciation and marching bands, it will be difficult for the artifact or this particular way of life to fade.

The trumpet is an important part of African American culture because it is a tool derived from early wind instruments that were used to create music and a way that the African Americans to express their moods, "Drawing on earlier forms of European and African music, jazz became a vibrant and dynamic musical genre featuring improvisation and swinging rhythms that remain influential to this day" (Holloway). Music and dance was a way that early Africans could express themselves. Even though many of these rituals were taken away from the Africans once they were moved to America, the love of music and the wind instruments remained fundamental to them.
