The Media's Deception
The media has capability to take control of the viewers mind and captivate attention of its viewers. The media today is the strongest influence today in social humanity, the media shows us the progression of what views are socially acceptable in society today. The media's strength can be viewed through family ideologies, in the 90s Boy Meets World formed a stereotype for the typical family, a few years later we can see an exposure of homosexuality on Modern Family. But what happens when the media's chase for control becomes out of control? The media's constant search for profits supersedes its primary responsibility of presenting the facts. It's lack of authenticity is exercised by its use of false methods which in turn distracts viewers from reality. The strategic forms of violence, music and structure allows for deception to be formed within television networks.
Violence allows for a visually appealing tactic to distort a perception of reality. The education system of Washington conducted a researched and found that only 4 percent of violent programs show nonviolent alternatives to solve programs. Television networks have manipulated the viewers to seeing violence as a strong option to challenges and problems. . Criminal Minds is a popular TV show that's purpose is to show justice within cases involving serial killers and analyzing criminal behavior. This show ranked in the top ten violent TV shows airing, the use of violence visually appeals the viewer by distorting the truth. Criminal Minds shows false capability of private databases and unrealistic forensic technology that distorts the truth of a police career. Violence serves as a distraction so that viewers can focus their attention to different things.
Music has a strong importance in filming. It sets the mood of whatever's being portrayed visually. Very limited suspense can be made without music, music has a strong power of controlling the tone of the segment being displayed. In a news report, music creates a serious tone through Beethoven's fifth symphony. Music is a subtle tool that can manipulate the audience. It has the power to dominate mediocre scripts and perfunctory acting. Synesthesia allows for manipulation of a viewer.
The structure of a TV show means everything, because of the limited time of programming. The structure is the simplest form of manipulation, the famous Jersey Shore that took place in form of two months has been cut to 14 shows that are forty minutes long. The editors extract all the obscure and wild events of the two months and allow the viewers to create false assumptions based on the craziness that occurs in each episode.
