For many medical illnesses pain killers are not the solution. Pain killers can become habit forming and also have many harsh side affect's that can cause a patient even more pain. Medicinal marijuana provides an alternative.
Many people suffer a variety of chronic illness. Many patients seem to fail at weighing the pros and cons of the medication they are given for pain. Almost always opiates are the answer, which has many harsh side affect's. An option rarely discussed is Medicinal Marijuana. It's a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of terminal and dehabilitating illnesses. Marijuana can relive certain types of pain. Without all the harsh side affect that come with opiates. "Marijuana is less toxic than many of the drugs that physicians prescribe every day." Joycelyn Elders, MD (Former US Surgeon General). Although for some patients medicinal marijuana is believed to be the most effective drug for battling their illness, "I would caution against this assumption due to the lack of consistent, repeatable scientific data available to prove marijuana's medical benefits." Bill Frist, MD (Former US Senator). Cannabis has been smoked widely in the western countries for more than four decades. There have been no reported cases of lung cancer attributed to marijuana.
Another reason why medicinal marijuana should be legalized is marijuana has been accepted as capable of relieving the distress of great numbers of ill people. There are numerous chronic illnesses such as Cancer , Alzheimer's , Aids , and HIV's just to name a few. These horrible illnesses can be dealt with by medicinal marijuana, and not be put through the harsh side effects of opiates or other pain medication. With all the harsh side effects from having no appetite to being nauseated and throwing up that opiates cause , with medicinal marijuana there are no side effects as these. Medicinal marijuana actually increases your appetite and takes away any nausea that is present.
Lastly another reason why medicinal marijuana should be legal is it would be a loss for people to continue to stand between all the million's of suffers and the many positive aspects this drug has to offer. Many people would like to look upon this
