I survived a lame drift attempt one night in my friend's Kia Sophia a decade ago. Early that night I was at the skate park, where I had ran into my friend Adam. I had not seen Adam in a few years. Last I heard, he had gotten arrested for trying to steal TVs from an elementary school, while his idiot friends were vandalizing the school's library. Adam told me he had gotten out of juvenile detention recently and had a job at a Dairy Queen near his apartment. Because he managed to stay out of jail and gained employment, Adam's parents bought him a new Kia Sophia for $2001.

At the time, $2001 was a bit low for a new car, so it made me skeptical about the quality of Kia. Since I did not have a car, I chose to experience the ride of the Kia Sophia. The green car was very basic, everything was manual. At the start of the car ride I tried not to talk trash about his car, especially since I did not have a ride. Adam, on the other hand, was quite proud of his first car. He even began to compare it with other small compact cars made by companies like Honda and Nissan.

After a couple of minutes listening to him brag about his little Sophia. I blurted out, "It's just a Kia Sophia . I'm surprised it even came with the air conditioner, for the price you paid. It's cool you a got a car now, but you're comparing it with cars that are not even in the same class. It's amazing that it made it out of the parking lot when you bought it." He responded with, "It's brand-new and it has everything else other cars have. The price doesn't necessarily mean it's a piece of crap, like everybody says it is. It is just as good as a Ford or a Nissan. I have no problems keeping up with the other cars in traffic and I'm usually the first person to start off at the light. I can push it past 100."

After he said that, I noticed that he started to drive more aggressively, accelerating a little faster, weaving in and out of traffic more frequently and braking harder. Before he got too carried away I tried to warn him by saying, "Dude, it's just an economy car, you're going to wreck it." Then he said, "It's fine. I've been driving this car for at least six months." Then I replied," Don't take it personal, I just don't want to see you mess up your new car."

We were getting close to his apartment and so he began taking back roads to get home. As he started navigating his way to the apartment through the back roads, he started to drive even more carelessly. I told him," Adam, we are almost at your place. Slow down please!" He came back with, "Chill out! I know this neighborhood like the back of my hand. I'm not going to hit anything."

We pulled up to a stop sign and then he gave me a funny look and said, "I bet I can hit 100 before the turn at the end of the road.". Then
