The article that was read for this summary examined the different tourist trends within the various countries that are included in the African continent. The article states that in the year of 2009 statistics have been analyzed and tourism in a handful of African countries has been steadily rising after some previous declines that were caused through economic and political turmoil that has plagued many of the African nations for years. A major part of the article began to talk about the recent increase of tourism domestic and international in the country of South Africa. During the time of the analysis, the FIFA World Cup had been going on so the article states that this was one of the major contributing factors as to why South Africa had shown increase in tourism related factors. They said that with the exposure that was gained from the international stage of the World Cup, it showed a vast majority of international consumers that the previous paradigm of African instability was not as they once thought. This allowed consumers to gain a new perception of Africa, being an incredible continent that has potential to be a fantastic tourist location. Also, the article also stated that some of the reason that South Africa is experiencing progress is due to the fact that the Chinese have a very immense financial stake within the country. They have partnered with the South African nation to further the country's infrastructure and try to increase the country's affluence and build them from a once poor third world country to a more developed one that is capable of sustaining its own economic power and political agendas.
