I still remember that day was a nice day, warm and sunny. The perfect thing was that my parents went to work and left me alone at home. I was happy about that because I always wanted to cook some food by myself.
First, I found the rice, oil, salt, and pot from the kitchen. I felt so excited about cooking food for myself. Second, I used water to clean the pot, vegetables and rice. Then I put the pot on the stove and the rice in the rice maker. For the vegetables, I used a knife to cut them into small pieces and broke some eggs in a bowl. I felt I like a super cook. After 20 minutes, the rice was cooked. I turned on the fire in the stove and put some oil into the pot. I was waiting for the oil to get hot, and then I could put the eggs and vegetables into the pot. But the following things were kind of out of my control.
After a while, I had no idea what was happening when the oil made a lot of smoke from the pot. The smoke made me unable to open my eyes. Actually, I had to do something to solve the smoke problem. So I put vegetables into the pot and tried to clear the smoke. Unfortunately, the smoke got worse and I was confused about the cause. I saw some fire come out from the pot, and the fire became larger. I was so scared. I tried to get the pot away from the stove, but the pot was too hot and heavy. During this there were some vegetables on fire which dropped on the floor. I changed my mind and put the pot back on the stove. I talked to myself "Siying, come down, Think, think, there must be some ways to fix the problem." Suddenly, I remembered the video I watched at school which introduced some common sense ways of how to put out fire. First, I used the pot lid to cover the pot as soon as possible, and turned off the stove. Second, I put wet towel on the floor where the fire was. Then, I turned on the fan and opened the window in the kitchen. Finally, the smoke disappeared, but the fire on the floor left some dark marks after it was put out. After the unfortunate event, I totally forgot how hungry I was.
In my childhood, it was a very unforgettable experience for me. Every time when I cook food, I will think about this and remind myself not to burn the kitchen.
