Introduction
I Imagine that your pet, whether it be a cat or a dog, is in an animal shelter right now, only a day away from being put down. It is sitting there in a cage with starry eyes and is begging you to rescue them. Now, instead of your beloved pet, replace it with over 2.7 million dogs and cats. Because according to the Humane Society, that’s how many animals are euthanized each year.
II Today I will show you why we must decrease the number of animals in shelters, how this goal can be accomplished, and the results we will see.

I There is a need to reduce the number of animals killed in shelters across America.
a.) Like I mentioned previously, over 2.7 million animals are euthanized every year.
b.) But on the other hand, oddly enough, there are about 2.7 million animals are also adopted and rescued from shelters every year.
TRANSITION – So how do we solve this? Well, a good start is to….
II Adopt and rescue more animals from these shelters, which will reduce the number of animals killed.
a.) It’s a really simple process, according to the website “Adopt a Pet.” All you have to do is find the pet you want to adopt on their website, go to the shelter where he or she is located, go through a brief background check, pay a small fee as compared to the fee you would pay when buying instead of adopting and boom: you have yourself a new lovable pet to love and cuddle up with.
b.) This process works really well because you don’t even have to leave your house in order to find the right pet for you. It’s just as easy as browsing Facebook or Twitter.
TRANSITION – But see, the main message I’m trying to give here is to save the lives of these precious animals. Because…
III If we do start adopting and rescuing more animals from these shelters, then more animals lives will be saved.
a.) There are many positives and long-term effects that will occur if you do adopt or rescue an animal.
1.) Most importantly, you are saving a life and you’ll get a great animal.
2.) As well as the costs are astronomically cheaper because according to the Humane Society, the cost to spay or neuter and to vaccinate your new best friend is included in the adoption fee.
