Background
The paper analysis the outsourcing cycle of a US based commodity trading firm J-trading. J trading has an in-house IT department to support business. The IT department consist of two sections namely the application section and the Infrastructure section. Though the IT department was handled by experienced professionals with experience of more than 5 years, the department was not supporting the business as intended. The members of infrastructure where responsible to not only support the J-trading’s LAN/WAN infrastructure but also support the PC helpdesk function. But the IT department employees used to consider PC helpdesk job as mundane job and this led to decrease in quality of services provided to the J-Trading business employees. Also the IT employees at infrastructure department were not happy with the work they do at job as they used to spend most of their time in performing day-to-day maintenance and operations instead of performing infrastructure upgrade and enhancement projects. This led to high turnover in IT department. Also the recent expense reduction policy was putting immense pressure on IT department to not only reduce the cost but also improve the quality of service for the business.
