The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) is a federal cabinet department of the United State Government that oversees, manages, and controls the transportation throughout the country. Established in 1966, DOT is committed to the following mission:

"Serve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future."

The United States Department of Transportation, consisting of nine operating administrations, is responsible for regulating the planning, maintenance, and improvement of highway and other transportation infrastructure across the nation.

 Slow decision-making - DOT needs to have a real-time system in place, which provides quick solution to problems and scenarios within minutes, thus accelerating quick decision-making.

 Forecasting Delays - DOT and other government agencies, for that matter, face a common bottleneck while forecasting work schedules throughout the year. This results in delays, burden to reach deadlines, and operational inefficiencies.

 Increased Supply chain complexities - A continued flow of information and the ability to access information in real-time is perhaps one of the biggest challenges faced by the DOT. This includes a vast amount of reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and other documents.

Most importantly, it is critical to track the flow of spends in projects and other development endeavours. Essentially, there is a need to show raw data within a public report in a meaningful way. Delays in the availability of critical information, economic and competitive pressures, information systems meant to manage the flows is adding to the pain area.

Moreover, strategic decisions such as subcontracting and outsourcing have made the supply chain even more complex.

 Allocation of assets - Allocation and management of transportation assets is not an easy task. Lack of streamlining has lead to delayed sorting, reduced flow management efficiency, and increased transportation costs.

 Challenges associated with Cost vs. Performance Analysis - It is imperative for the DOT to identify negative trends in costs and performance, identify pain areas, and take corrective action as early as possible. The delays in the availability of real-time information and
